Deborah Zajac is a General Partner at SOSV, investing early in deep-tech and science-based companies improving the physical world, planetary health, and human health globally. Deborah is vested in turning innovation into impact at scale. Before SOSV, Deborah invested in startups at Touchdown Ventures, now Cerity Partners Ventures, and helped scale the firm to $1.5B under management and 25 corporate venture programs in 5 sectors. She co-founded and ran its healthcare group and worked with 12 organizations on 15 venture funds at Touchdown and GE.
At GE Ventures and GE Global Research, Deborah invested in, spun out, and partnered with deep tech, digital, and consumer companies, and served as Exec-in-Residence at Columbia University Tech Ventures. She was an operator at a startup and Fortune 10 company, advised industrial manufacturers, and worked with companies, non-profits, and governments in more than 25 countries, including Japan. Deborah is passionate about helping exceptional technical founders turn ambitious science into globally consequential companies.

Tomas Silicaro is the Co-Founder and CEO of Bioeutectics, a deep-tech company redefining the future of industrial chemistry through the development of high-performance, sustainable solvents and ingredients designed to replace traditional petrochemical alternatives.

Originally from Argentina, Tomas is an entrepreneur and business leader with more than 20 years of experience across the chemical, ingredients, food, and specialty materials industries. Throughout his career, he has focused on international business development, B2B commercialization, supply chains, innovation, and bringing new technologies from concept to market, with extensive experience across Latin America and international markets.

Tomas holds an Executive MBA from IAE Business School and has studied negotiation at Harvard University. His combination of commercial experience and entrepreneurial vision led him to co-found Bioeutectics alongside a multidisciplinary team of scientists and technologists with a shared ambition: to transform one of the most fundamental—and often overlooked—components of modern industry: solvents and ingredients.

Bioeutectics develops a new generation of Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NADES) inspired by the way nature creates its own solvating systems. Using renewable raw materials, green chemistry, biomimicry, and artificial intelligence, the company designs high-performance solvent systems that can help industries move away from conventional petrochemical chemistry without compromising functionality or efficiency.

Under Tomas’ leadership, Bioeutectics has evolved from an Argentine scientific startup into an internationally focused deep-tech company. In 2024, the company raised a US$2.1 million investment round led by Fen Ventures and Atento Capital, with participation from GridX, Syensqo Ventures, and SOSV’s IndieBio. The company subsequently expanded its operations to the United States, establishing a presence in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as part of its strategy to scale and commercialize its technology globally.

Bioeutectics is developing applications across industries including personal care and cosmetics, food and nutraceuticals, agriculture, home care, and other industrial sectors where solvents play a critical role. The company has also gained international recognition within the deep-tech ecosystem, including participation as a finalist in the Hello Tomorrow Global Challenge.

As CEO, Tomas is driven by the conviction that sustainability and industrial performance should not be competing objectives. His mission is to build Bioeutectics into a global platform for next-generation solvents and demonstrate that some of the most important transformations in chemistry can come from understanding—and learning from—nature.

After beginning his career in biomaterials R&D, Hasitha worked in ophthalmology, developing artificial corneal implants and helping restore vision for patients with corneal blindness. He later built a bioplastics company through its Series A stage, leading technology development and collaborating with global brands to commercialize biodegradable products.

Today, Hasitha is the co-founder and CEO of Materia Bioworks Inc. (Materia), an AI-powered materials technology company helping brands and manufacturers transition away from petroleum plastics. Materia’s MAPS platform combines computational chemistry and machine learning to reduce the time, cost, and trial and error involved in developing and manufacturing high-performance sustainable products. Materia recently received an investment from Mitsui Chemicals through its CVC fund, 321Catalyst™, to advance the development and broader adoption of bioplastic solutions.

Hasitha brings more than 14 years of experience translating scientific research into commercial technologies, particularly in bioplastics and other sustainable materials.
