Roy leads Third Derivative’s innovation programs including supporting and funding startups in clean power, industrial decarbonization, data centers, cooling technologies, and carbon dioxide removal, and specializes in growing D3’s support to the Asia-Pacific ecosystem, and is responsible for ongoing startup cohorts in Japan, South Korea, and Singapore. Before D3, Roy was a Business Executive at Google, establishing an entity to deliver carbon-free energy, recycled water, and resilient microgrids for Google’s facilities. Roy also serves as a Senior Principal at RMI, and led collaborative project development with startups, corporates, utilities, and governments in Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America.  Roy led efforts with global multinationals and universities, including McDonald’s Corporation and Arizona State University. Roy was previously with Booz Allen Hamilton, and the U.S. Mission to NATO in a prior career in national security.

Theodore Mollinger is a General Partner at East X Ventures, a London-based deeptech VC fund. In 2025, EXV  launched Starmaker, Europe’s first private VC fund dedicated to fusion energy, investing both in fusion reactors and supply chain companies. He recently co-led the EUR 411m Series A-2 of Proxima Fusion, Europe’s largest fusion funding round, alongside XTX, with the participation of Google and RWE.

Phil is a Partner at Breakthrough Energy Ventures, where he is the deal lead on five fusion investments: Commonwealth Fusion Systems, Pacific Fusion, Type One Energy, XCimer Energy and Zap Energy. Prior to joining BEV, Phil was a Senior Technical Program Manager at Google X working on several early stage energy technology projects, and before that as an Associate on the Google Energy and Renewable Energy Investment Teams. He was a Fellow working at the U.S. Department of Energy Advanced Research Projects Agency for Energy (ARPA-E), the Senior Energy Analyst at The Alliance for Climate Protection, and an Alternative Power and Energy Storage Analyst at Lux Research. Phil holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University, and an MBA and B.Sc in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He began his career in Japan’s financial industry, holding key roles at Mizuho Bank, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), PwC Advisory, and Dai-ichi Life, where he gained extensive expertise in finance and business strategy. At JBIC, he worked on export finance for power generation plant projects, covering North Africa and Russia. He joined a finance startup as COO, where he further honed his leadership skills, before co-founding Helical Fusion in 2021.

He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Fusion Energy Industry Council (J-Fusion).
