Fusion energy is expected to become a next-generation energy source. Building on decades of research and development, efforts are now accelerating in equipment development, manufacturing, and engineering toward power generation demonstration, bringing us closer to the stage where its real-world deployment can be concretely envisioned. As fusion energy moves toward deployment in society, the challenge goes beyond power generation technology itself. How can a new energy source attract industries, investment, and talent, and translate them into regional growth and urban development? This session brings together leaders from the fusion, finance, real estate development, and mobility and infrastructure sectors to explore the potential of an ecosystem that connects next-generation energy with the creation of long-term value for local communities.

- Biography
Maki Amada leads MUFG Bank’s sustainability business, drawing on extensive experience in corporate finance, global banking, investor relations, and sustainability strategy.
His career spans Tokyo, New York, and London.
Since 2021, he has led group-wide sustainability initiatives, and in October 2024 he became Managing Director and Head of the Sustainable Business Division, after leading sustainability.

Joined Mitsui Fudosan after graduation and gained broad experience in residential planning, land acquisition, J-SOX operations, and office leasing. In 2019, joined a new business initiative through the internal “MAG!C” program. Since April 2023, has led CVC investments at 31VENTURES, driving startup collaboration and new business creation. Appointed Group Leader in April 2025.

- Biography
Joined East Japan Railway Company (JR East) in 1990 and has primarily been engaged in planning, maintenance, and construction related to railway signaling and telecommunications systems.
Since June 2022, has overseen the company’s Innovation Strategy Division. In July 2026, assumed the position of Senior Managing Executive Officer, responsible for Innovation Strategy (Deputy Chief Officer), while concurrently serving as General Manager of the Innovation Strategy Department.
Leads JR East’s innovation strategy with the aim of realizing Lifestyle Transformation (LX) and enhancing the group’s value as a technology and service company. Responsibilities include promoting digital businesses through the utilization of internal and external technologies, developing and operating core business systems, advancing R&D initiatives, and evaluating emerging technologies.
Shuhei Azuma

- Biography
Shuhei began his career working on multilateral economic partnership negotiations at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and later engaged in global strategy development at the Indian subsidiary of a Japanese management consulting firm. In 2017, he became Japan’s youngest mayor when elected Mayor of Shijonawate City in Osaka Prefecture, where he led municipal reform over two terms spanning eight years. He earned a master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from Kyoto University, where he conducted research on particle simulation of tokamak plasmas.
