miibio leverages technology originating from the University of Tokyo and aims, through its biomanufacturing business, to help solve climate change by enabling decarbonization and to realize a sustainable society by moving away from petroleum dependence. While there are many useful substances that biomanufacturing can target, we are taking on the challenge of producing aromatic compounds, which serve as raw materials for functional chemicals. In particular, because aromatic compounds are mostly produced from petroleum, establishing methods to produce them from biomass is an extremely important national strategy for Japan from the perspectives of economic security and strengthening supply chain resilience. Our core technology, which can control microbial metabolic pathways ON and OFF using light, offers an innovative solution for reducing costs in the mass production of aromatic compounds. By utilizing this proprietary light-controlled bioproduction system and collaborating with the chemical industries in Japan and around the world, we aim to support a wide range of manufacturing industries.
PROVIGATE, Inc. is a deep-tech company originating from the University of Tokyo that supports behavior change for people with diabetes and those at risk, using blood glucose information obtained at home as a starting point, while bridging healthcare and medicine as well as home-based care and medical care.
The company focuses on glycated albumin (GA), which reflects average blood glucose levels over the most recent one to two weeks, and integrates three elements: low- or non-invasive “testing,” an “AI app” that provides continuous, personalized feedback, and “human” support that intervenes when needed.
PROVIGATE is advancing three initiatives in parallel:
1. Providing “glucoreview®,” which combines weekly GA testing by mail with app-based and specialist staff support;
2. Building evidence through clinical research and social implementation trials in collaboration with local governments, medical institutions, and other partners; and
3. Developing at-home rapid testing/point-of-care testing (POCT) that enables measurement from blood or saliva at home.
By implementing its solutions early in the healthcare field, PROVIGATE aims to leverage the knowledge gained toward medical device development and standardization in Japan and overseas, creating new options for at-home blood glucose monitoring.

The International Research Center for Neurointelligence (WPI-IRCN) at The University of Tokyo brings together researchers from neuroscience, medicine, mathematics, information science, and other fields to explore the origins of human intelligence and advance next-generation AI inspired by the brain. Through interdisciplinary research and collaboration with academic and industry partners worldwide, IRCN seeks to unlock the mysteries of intelligence and create new possibilities for society. At our booth, spot speakers will include Clement Song (EIR Core Director), Kazuyuki Aihara (Professor and PI), Yasushi Okada (Professor and PI), Hideki Ukai (Project Associate Professor and ES-Mouse/Virus Core Manager), and Shengbin Cui (Project Researcher, Zenas Chao Lab). We look forward to welcoming you!
The University of Tokyo actively supports startup creation and tech commercialization to deliver its research achievements to society. Born from this initiative, commissure Inc. leverages cutting-edge research in haptics and embodiment informatics. Operating from a university incubator, the startup develops proprietary Physical AI solutions that convert human movements into robot training data, driving advanced industrial automation. This session highlights their latest efforts in connecting academic innovation with real-world applications to solve pressing societal challenges.
